Stories of pain and perseverance, artistry and resistance, dignity and resilience, and devotion to their land and one another. “Still Here” pays tribute to their steadfastness.

Despite all they have endured, the Palestinian people are still here.

A Land With A People

Once declared “a land without a people for a people without a land,” Palestine always had people. People with a rich history and culture, who lived in peace and harmony for centuries, always devoted to their land, planting seeds of love in its olive trees and orange groves.

Colonialism is designed to dehumanize and instill subservience, convincing the indigenous that they need their oppressor to become civilized. But Palestinians are a proud people. Their identity and heritage is a sacred source of strength, one that they weave throughout their art, culture, and writing.

Not Peace, Apartheid

Institutional discrimination between different groups of people on the same land. Military courts for Palestinians. Civil courts for everybody else. Roads exclusive to Israelis. Checkpoints and detours exclusive to Palestinians. A physical wall separating the two groups of people. An invisible one dictating their fates. International and Israeli human rights organizations have called it what it is. Apartheid.

The Great March Of Return

That Palestinians have only sought justice through violence is a myth. In March 2018, Palestinians engaged in peaceful protests in Gaza along the border with Israel, demanding an end to the blockade and the right of return to their land. They were met by bullets, with over 200 Palestinians murdered, including women, children, journalists, and health workers.

Nakba

The catastrophe, a product of terrorism that wiped out entire villages, and forced hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to flee their land. They took with them keys to their homes, and hope that someday they would return. ‍ The catastrophe, because the price they paid for crimes they did not commit is unimaginable.

A Colonial Peace

“The greatest and most prestigious board ever assembled at any time, any place.” The Board of Peace. To a colonialist, peace is the means by which conquest advances. When force no longer works, theft is legitimized by foreign administration for the good of the people. A colonial peace is one in which injustice becomes the status quo, enshrined in prestigious boards and validated by the complicity of participating world leaders.

Genocide

The intentional destruction of a group of people. Israeli officials declared their plans at the start. Leading scholars confirmed it. Over 70,000 people murdered. Over 50,000 children killed or injured. Over 39,000 have lost at least one parent. More than 90% of all structures destroyed. Starvation used as a weapon of war. Schools, hospitals, and essential infrastructure obliterated. A genocide live streamed for more than 2 years. ‍

Zionist Logic

Zionism was once recognized by the United Nations as a form of racism. It is a supremacist ideology predicated on the creation of an ethnonationalist state for Jews and the forceful displacement of the indigenous population. It is the foundation of the Greater Israel project, a vision under which a Jewish state would occupy the area between the Nile and Euphrates rivers.
